At Pacesetters ELCC, medications are only administered to a child when the parent
has written consent Parental consent for medication administration is stored in
an accessible location known to all staff and portable to bring along on off-site
trips. The medication or health care provided is like first aid; it is nothing complex.
Consent would be recorded on the child’s registration form.

Administration of medication to a child can onl~ occur where written consent of
the child’s parent is obtained. All medicines are kept in a cabinet that is
inaccessible to children and in a locked box inside the cabinet/refrigerator. All
medication is in the original labelled container and is administered according to
the labelled directions. When medications have been administered, the name of the
medication, the time of administration, the amount administered, and who
administered the medicine are recorded on a medication form. Parents or
guardians are notified that the medication was administered and updated on the
status of their child as required. Medications needed in an emergenc~ are stored
in a place inaccessible to children.
Medication errors will be prevented by checking the following:
1) Right child
2) Right medication
3) Right dose
4) Right time
5) Right route of administration
